St Mark the Ascetic
ST MARK THE ASCETIC
Born in Egypt in the early 14th century and died in the Monastery of St Antony in 1386 AD. A late 14th century ascetic who was known for his quiet and meek nature. His strict life and purity of heart raised him to a high degree of spiritual perfection. His relics repose along the north wall of the Church of St Mark, constructed in his honour over the cell in which he once dwelt. Feast day: 15 July.
